Front Propogation in Reaction-Diffusion Equations
Mentor: Beniada Shabani
Reaction-diffusion equations appear in many areas of science, like population dynamics, chemical kinetics, etc. For a large class of these equations, solutions behave like fronts that like to spread around. Together we’ll try to understand such fronts by studying various important properties, like their propagation speed and geometry, and dependence on the medium. On our way, we’ll learn about the simple and beautiful PDE principles that govern such behavior, recent techniques in tackling diffusion problems, as well as some probabilistic approaches (via branching Brownian motion)!
